Prison Shocker: U.S. Imprisons Three Times as Many Black People as South Africa During Apartheid | Alternet

Prison Shocker: U.S. Imprisons Three Times as Many Black People as South Africa During Apartheid | Alternet: "Bachus reported that the U.S. prison population hovered around 24,000 for most of the 1900s until suddenly, in the 1980s, the country saw a staggering rise in the inmate population to nearly a quarter million. The main causes? the War on Drugs that began in the 1980s under then-President Ronald Reagan, mandatory sentencing and three-strikes laws, all of which, most agree, disproportionately affect minorities."

Paul Balles: Shameful Exceptionalism

The Origins of Our Police State

The Origins of Our Police State: September 16, 2013 "Information Clearing House - ELIZABETH, N.J.—JaQuan LaPierre, 22, was riding a bicycle down a sidewalk Sept. 5 when he noticed a squad car pulling up beside him. It was 8:30 on a hot Thursday night at the intersection of Bond Street and Jackson Avenue here in Elizabeth, N.J. LaPierre had 10 glass vials of crack cocaine—probably what the cops were hoping to find—and he hastily swallowed them. He halted and faced the two officers who emerged from the cruiser.

“We are tired of you niggers,” he remembers one of the officers saying. “We’re tired of all this shooting and robberies and violence. And we are going to make you an example.”

Cop Refused To Let Family Save Injured Fawn; Instead Threatened Arrest, Shot Deer, And Impounded Their Vehicle - informationliberation: On Monday, September 9, Greg Searle drove down Route 105 near their home in Chelsea, Quebec, when he discovered a “freshly hit” deer fawn. Searle said he carried it to the shoulder of the road, calmed it down, and examined it for injuries. It had some scratches but did not have visible wounds, and would or could not use its back legs. Searle wanted to get the deer checked out to see if it had internal injuries. It was obvious to him that the deer was not going to die anytime soon. He requested his family join him at the scene, which they soon did. Searle and the female driver who hit the deer made phone calls to locate a shelter or an agency who would examine and possibly care for the fawn.

OpEdNews - Article: Police Are More Dangerous To The Public Than Are Criminals: "Unaccountable power, which the police have, always attracts psychopaths. You are lucky if you only get bullies, but mainly police forces attract people who enjoy hurting people and tyrannizing them. To inflict harm on the public is why psychopaths join police forces."
