Julian Assange and What is at Stake

Julian Assange and What is at Stake: These authorities' fulminations tell us something profound about how precarious their continued rule actually is. They cannot do what they've been doing and they cannot do what they plan to do going forward if they are not able to garrot what the people know. Whistle-blowing and genuine journalism are far too damaging to their designs: real journalism reveals our leaders' hypocrisy and deceit. The workings of their system are so awful that our esteemed leaders must carry out an unprecedented level of repression against truth-telling, inquiry, and protest, or else their castles will be shaken and face ignominious destruction from the fury of the populace rising up to challenge them. WikiLeaks and Assange have already demonstrated the potential for this. We must all rise to defend Julian Assange for his heroic stand against their horrid acts so that we can create more room and not less for him and others to do what must be done.

44 Senators Tell Obama To Do Israel’s Bidding | My Catbird Seat

44 Senators Tell Obama To Do Israel’s Bidding | My Catbird Seat: These 44 senators forgot about the terrible reviews of the 2003 Shock and Awe production. They just know Shock and Awe: The Sequel, will be a success.

Their June 15 foreign policy letter is reproduced here, complete with signatures.

Apple Refuses to Sell Products to Iranian Americans | AlterNet

Apple Refuses to Sell Products to Iranian Americans | AlterNet: Writing this on my MacBook Pro, I’m quite ashamed of the recent news that Apple refused to sell an iPad to an Iranian-American girl. This Monday, WSBTV in Atlanta reported that the girl, Sahar Sabet, was in an Apple store in Georgia when an employee overheard her speaking Farsi with her uncle. The employee then asked what language they were speaking and where they were from. When Sahar told him “Farsi, I’m from Iran,” he responded, “I just can’t sell this to you. Our countries have bad relations.” Sahar said she walked out in tears. Zack Jafarzadeh, another Iranian American interviewed in the report, said that his friend was once denied an iPhone purchase when a sales representative overheard them speaking Farsi.

OpEdNews - Article: History Is The Enemy As "Brilliant" Psy-Ops Become The News

OpEdNews - Article: History Is The Enemy As "Brilliant" Psy-Ops Become The News: History is buried with the dead and deformed of Vietnam and Bhopal. And history is the new enemy. On 28 May, President Obama launched a campaign to falsify the history of the war in Vietnam. To Obama, there was no Agent Orange, no free-fire zones, no turkey shoots, no cover-ups of massacres, no rampant racism, no suicides (as many Americans took their own lives as died in the war), no defeat by a resistance army drawn from an impoverished society. It was, said Mr. Hopey Changey, "one of the most extraordinary stories of bravery and integrity in the annals of [US] military history."

The State Department Goes Bad   : Information Clearing House

The State Department Goes Bad   : Information Clearing House: “The fact is that Zionist influence spreads far beyond Israel’s area of dominion and has, for a long while now, exerted a corrupting power within many of the political institutions of Western governments, and particularly that of the United States. In other words, unlike the Russians or the Chinese and other such governments, the Israelis and their supporters directly influence the policy makers of our own country and this often results in our abetting Israel’s crimes. This makes it imperative that Zionist Israel be singled out as a high priority case from among the many other oppressive regimes that may be candidates for criticism and protest.”

Ron Paul:  Unconstitutional Uses of Drones Must Stop   : Information Clearing House

Ron Paul:  Unconstitutional Uses of Drones Must Stop   : Information Clearing House: Last week I joined several of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Obama requesting clarification of his criteria for the lethal use of drones overseas. Administration officials assure us that a "high degree of confidence" is required that the person targeted by a drone is a terrorist. However, press reports have suggested that mere "patterns of behavior" and other vague criteria are actually being used to decide who to target in a drone strike. I am concerned that an already troublingly low threshold for execution on foreign soil may be even lower than we imagined.

Glenn Greenwald:    Julian Assange's Right to Asylum : Information Clearing House

Glenn Greenwald:    Julian Assange's Right to Asylum : Information Clearing House: The evidence that the US seeks to prosecute and extradite Assange is substantial. There is no question that the Obama justice department has convened an active grand jury to investigate whether WikiLeaks violated the draconian Espionage Act of 1917. Key senators from President Obama's party, including Senate intelligence committee chairwoman Dianne Feinstein, have publicly called for his prosecution under that statute. A leaked email from the security firm Stratfor – hardly a dispositive source, but still probative – indicated that a sealed indictment has already been obtained against him. Prominent American figures in both parties have demanded Assange's lifelong imprisonment, called him a terrorist, and even advocated his assassination.

When I Saw Noam Chomsky Cry | | AlterNet

When I Saw Noam Chomsky Cry | | AlterNet: I had grown up believing in American values but this bombing of innocent civilians violated every one of them. Looking at U.S. executive branch leaders from the perspective of a Lao refugee camp, I had learned in a few weeks that they were the enemy of human decency, democracy, human rights and international law abroad, and that in this real world might made right and crime paid. However much one believed America was a “nation of laws not men” at home, it was clearly a nation of cruel, brutal and lawless men in Laos.
