OpEdNews - Article: The Charge of the New York Times or - Baksheesh for the Doorkeeper

OpEdNews - Article: The Charge of the New York Times or - Baksheesh for the Doorkeeper: "It could be said, of course, that last year's 'little fleet' -- that's what the word means in Spanish, much as 'guerrilla' means 'little war' -- is also a reasonable candidate. It never reached Gaza, but the commander of the Israeli navy could well repeat the words of Pyrrhus, king of Epirus, whose victory over the Romans was so costly that he is said to have exclaimed: 'Another such victory, and I am lost!'"

A Modern Kidnapping on U.S. Soil | Veterans Today

A Modern Kidnapping on U.S. Soil | Veterans Today: "We were used to be shrieked at – to be called all kinds of nasty names. Name-calling came with the terrain where even the bravest tread gingerly, as you do in a minefield that a hitherto unopposed enemy has strewn with explosives. We told ourselves that sometimes freedom is expensive. That was the price to be paid so that the people of the Western nations could breathe freely again and not have to look over their shoulder."

Environmental Activist Tim DeChristopher Sentenced to Prison, Tells the Court, "This Is What Hope Looks Like" | | AlterNet: "This is really the heart of what this case is about. The rule of law is dependent upon a government that is willing to abide by the law. TMDS Blog

TMDS BlogToday I stood over the grave of a young man who died in Iraq. The gravestone talks about "love" and "service." I admit, it made me tear up, but not for the reason it would make "good Americans" tearup. It made me tear up to know that this young man, who by all accounts was a principled, giving, kind human being, had been duped into giving up his life for a lie. His courage, his integrity, were thrown away for nothing. His death accomplished nothing. The young man's virtues were twisted and exploited, to convert him into a tool to be used and then thrown away by some of the most evil people on the planet.

So This Is Despair | Truthout

So This Is Despair | Truthout: "Mr. Obama got on those knees again Monday night, on national television no less, and once again begged the GOP to devour Social Security and Medicare. He gobbled up the flawed, flayed premise of the far-right's deranged argument, again, and pleaded for the chance to give away the core of what he was elected to defend.

"I thought I was done being ashamed of my president.
I was wrong."

Air Force Cites New Testament, Ex-Nazi, to Train Officers on Ethics of Launching Nuclear Weapons | Truthout

Air Force Cites New Testament, Ex-Nazi, to Train Officers on Ethics of Launching Nuclear Weapons | Truthout: "'Astonishingly, the training presentation grotesquely attempts to justify that unconscionable concept of 'war is good because Jesus says it is' by specifically textually referencing allegedly supportive bible passages from the New Testament Books of Luke, Acts, Hebrews, Timothy and, finally even Revelation,' said Weinstein, a former White House counsel during the Reagan administration. 'If this repugnant nuclear missile training is not Constitutionally violative of both the 'no religious test' mandate of the Constitution and the First Amendment's No Establishment Clause then those bedrock legal principles simply do not exist.'"
