Why Are Believers So Hostile Toward Atheists? | | AlterNet: "Two recent stories in the news/blogs/opinionosphere have made me vividly aware -- not for the first time -- of the 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' position of non-believers in our culture. In one piece, atheists were called out for being negative and confrontational, and readers were informed that we're angry and bitter all the time because we have no hope of life after death. In the other piece, non-believers were called out for sharing the positive, joyful aspects of our lives and the ways we find meaning and hope even in the face of death... and for failing to mention God when we do."

U.S. teenager tortured in Kuwait and barred re-entry into the U.S. - Glenn Greenwald - Salon.com: "Approximately two weeks ago (on December 20), Mohamed went to the airport in Kuwait to have his visa renewed, as he had done every three months without incident for the last year. This time, however, he was told by the visa officer that his name had been marked in the computer, and after waiting five hours, he was taken into a room and interrogated by officials who refused to identify themselves. They then handcuffed and blindfolded him and drove him to some other locale. That was the start of a two-week-long, still ongoing nightmare during which he was imprisoned for a week in an unknown location by unknown captors, relentlessly interrogated, and severely beaten and threatened with even worse forms of torture."

Wikileaks, the United States, Sweden, and Devil's Island : William Blum- Information Clearing House: ICH
Wikileaks, the United States, Sweden, and Devil's Island : Information Clearing House: ICH: "And through it all, the good, hard-working, righteous people of America have believed mightily that their country always means well; some even believe to this day that we never started a war, certainly nothing deserving of the appellation 'war of aggression'."

Why Washington Hates Hugo Chavez : Information Clearing House: ICH: "The details of Chavez's efforts have been largely omitted in the US media where he is regularly demonized as a 'leftist strongman' or a dictator. The media refuses to acknowledge that Chavez has narrowed the income gap, eliminated illiteracy, provided health care for all Venezuelans, reduced inequality, and raised living standards across he board. While Bush and Obama were expanding their foreign wars and pushing through tax cuts for the rich, Chavez was busy improving the lives of the poor and needy while fending off the latest wave of US aggression."
2011 By Paul Craig Roberts : "As 2011 dawns, public discourse in America has the country primed for a fascist dictatorship. The situation will be worse by 2012. The most uncomfortable truth that emerges from the WikiLeaks saga is that American public discourse consists of cries for revenge against those who tell us truths. The vicious mendacity of the U.S. government knows no restraint. Whether or not international law can save Julian Assange from the clutches of the Americans or death by a government black ops unit, both executive and legislative branches are working assiduously to establish the National Security State as the highest value and truth as its greatest enemy."
