Iraqi WMDs All Over Again: The Latest US Threats to Syria - Sputnik International

Iraqi WMDs All Over Again: The Latest US Threats to Syria - Sputnik International

Here we go again... "US warns Syria over 'potential' plan for chemical attack" was the dramatic news headline which greeted me when I checked out the BBC News website first thing Tuesday morning, June 26.

A White House statement said that the US had "identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children." It added, "The activities are similar to preparations the regime made before its 4 April 2017 chemical weapons attack." The US made it clear that if the devilish plan, which it had "identified" was carried out, it wouldn't just hold the Syrian government responsible, but those other all-round "baddies" Russia and Iran too.

Article: Washington Has Been At War For 16 Years: Why? | OpEdNews

Article: Washington Has Been At War For 16 Years: Why? | OpEdNews

For 16 years the US has been at war in the Middle East and North Africa, running up trillions of dollars in expenses, committing untold war crimes, and sending millions of war refugees to burden Europe, while simultaneously claiming that Washington cannot afford its Social Security and Medicare obligations or to fund a national health service like every civilized country has.
Considering the enormous social needs that cannot be met because of the massive cost of these orchestrated wars, one would think that the American people would be asking questions about the purpose of these wars. What is being achieved at such enormous costs? Domestic needs are neglected so that the military/security complex can grow fat on war profits.
The lack of curiousity on the part of the American people, the media, and Congress about the purpose of these wars, which have been proven to be based entirely on lies, is extraordinary. What explains this conspiracy of silence, this amazing disinterest in the squandering of money and lives?

Policing ‘Truth’ to Restore ‘Trust’ – Consortiumnews

Policing ‘Truth’ to Restore ‘Trust’ – Consortiumnews

There’s been a lot of self-righteous talk about “truth” recently, especially from the people at The New York Times, The Washington Post and the rest of the mainstream news media. They understandably criticize President Trump for his casual relationship with reality and happily dream about how nice it would be if they could develop algorithms to purge the Internet of what they call “fake news.”

For its adherents, the United States is truly the one indispensable nation, that shining city on a hill, despite the country's long and sordid history of international banditry, subversion, and aggression proving otherwise.

Nuclear Weapons Ban? What Needs to be Banned Is U.S. Arrogance | OffGuardian

Nuclear Weapons Ban? What Needs to be Banned Is U.S. Arrogance | OffGuardian

In a context of almost total indifference, marked by outright hostility, representatives of over a hundred of the world’s least powerful countries are currently opening another three-week session of United Nations talks aimed at achieving a legally binding ban on nuclear weapons. Very few people even know this is happening.

Oliver Stone Receives Gary Webb Award – Consortiumnews

Oliver Stone Receives Gary Webb Award – ConsortiumnewsFor his brave work in the field of documentaries, director Oliver Stone was the 2016 recipient of the Gary Webb Freedom of the Press Award, which he received from Consortiumnews.com’s editor Robert Parry on June 3.

Robert Parry: Everyone knows Oliver Stone is a great screenwriter, director and producer. He’s done famous movies. But I also thought people should recognize that he has done very significant support for documentary projects. He has been involved in them, he has helped fund them.

What he’s done, which is almost unique at this moment in American history, is he tries to deal with people who are often leaders of other countries that are under attack by the United States, or being harshly criticized. Some of these leaders are being demonized and they’re being turned into cardboard characters that can be easily denounced and dismissed.

Stone's 'Putin Interviews' offend a US establishment drunk on its own exceptionalism — RT Op-Edge

Stone's 'Putin Interviews' offend a US establishment drunk on its own exceptionalism — RT Op-EdgeOliver Stone’s documentary series on Vladimir Putin, you would think, is required viewing for Western audiences looking to see beyond the crude caricature of Russia’s president in order to gain an insight into his worldview.
Indeed, surely such an insight is absolutely necessary, what with Russia being the biggest country in Europe, a major nuclear power, and with the deepening tensions arising from Russia’s geostrategic differences and rivalry with Washington in recent years.

Yet for the Western liberal commentariat, condemnation rather than understanding is the order of the day, evidenced in the barrage of criticism with which Stone’s documentary series on the Russian leader has been received in the Western mainstream.

Article: Liars Lying About Nearly Everything | OpEdNews

Article: Liars Lying About Nearly Everything | OpEdNewsThe United States has been using lies to go to war since 1846, when Americans who believed in manifest destiny sought to expand to the Pacific Ocean at the expense of Mexico, acquiring by force of arms California and what were to become the southwestern states. In 1898 the U.S. picked up the pieces of a dying Spanish Empire in a war that was driven by American imperialists and the yellow dog reporting of the Hearst Newspaper chain. And then came World War 1, World War 2, and Korea, all avoidable and all enabled by deliberate lying coming out of Washington.

More recently, we have seen Vietnam with its Gulf of Tonkin fabrication, Granada and Panama with palpably ridiculous pretexts for war, Iraq with its nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, Afghanistan with its lies about bin Laden, Libya and its false claims about Gaddafi, and most recently Syria and Iran with allegations of an Iranian threat to the United States and lies about Syrian use of barrel bombs and chemical weapons. And if one adds in the warnings to Russia over Ukraine, a conflict generated by Washington when it brought about regime change in Kiev, you have a tissue of lies that span the globe and bring with them never-ending conflict to advance the American imperium.

‘Getting Trump’ with the New McCarthyism

‘Getting Trump’ with the New McCarthyism

Many Democrats and progressives are embracing a New McCarthyism in their drive to negate last November’s election and remove President Trump from office, but is that right, asks Robert Parry.

US Journalism’s New ‘Golden Age’?

US Journalism’s New ‘Golden Age’?

The Washington Post and other big media are hailing a new journalistic “golden age” as they punish President Trump for disparaging them, but is this media bias a sign of good journalism or itself a scandal, asks Robert Parry
